Making a Difference

Anna Rose O'Sullivan

AnnaRose.jpgAnna Rose was just 9 years old when she auditioned for LCB. She was a lovely dancer but had no idea of just how good she really was. Though the audition panel had been looking for a 12 or 13 year old child to dance the lead role in A Little Princess, Anna Rose was given the part.

Lucille Briance and choreographer Vanessa Fenton encouraged Anna Rose to audition for The Royal Ballet School, and she was accepted. LCB helped Anna Rose's family to find a scholarship to support her fees and encouraged her all the way through the rigours of her training. In 2012 she was accepted into The Royal Ballet, where she currently dances as an Soloist.

In her own words, "It was LCB that gave me the inspiration to pursue classical dance as a career."

A parent's perspective

"LCB changed my child's life. I work full time, I am a lone parent with no family support in London, and I am a ballet mother. Five years ago an ex-LCB company member who is now our ballet teacher suggested I took my 'fragile and over sensitive' little girl to an LCB audition. I was told that my child would enjoy the audition - she did. Since that audition result (which we pinned on the wall), over the last five years, through the support, kindness and trust that adults in the LCB have placed in my child, I have watched my little girl really believe in herself and become a kind, mature, focused young lady of 13. It is as a result of this that my child and I found ourselves to have a new family, the LCB family, in our lives. I will never be able to thank you enough."

"I just wanted to thank you and all of you at LCB for giving [my daughter] the most wonderful experience on the LCB Tour, being part of a small, intimate group…rehearsing just a few days...to produce the most wonderful, uplifting, beautiful ballet in which all the children had varied and considerable parts. It is also so rare for children to be part of giving to other groups in society who are less fortunate."
